(((Walkthrough really isn’t necessary. Be a good partner to have a good relationship. Be a productive member of the colony to keep it thriving.)))

WOW. Be honest, show of hands here: have you heard of this game? Because I feel cheated and wronged to not been told about this game the minute it came out. Our Personal space by Metasepia Games is, quite simply, one of the most amazing visual novels I’ve ever played, free or commercial.  The art is not highly polished, but it’s still nice and has a distinctive style that really brings the characters and their emotions to life. More importantly, by my standards, you get to make major decisions about what the protagonist likes, wants, and feels. Your character can be aggressive or passive, kind or cruel, and you can chose everything from your characters hobbies to job to attitude towards having kids. Different options open up depending on the health of your relationship and your knowledge base, introducing multiple layers to the game. Additionally, the dialog is beautifully written. I honestly had trouble getting through the bad relationship scenes because they felt so honest and real, while the romantic scenes were tremendously enjoyable for exactly the same reason. This is a game that allows you to create a character that reacts in the same way you would yourself, and shows legitimate consequences for your actions. Do you want to leave your husband? You can. Do you want to be a loving and devoted wife? You can. Do you want to dedicate yourself to your work and make the colony succeed? You can. Do you want to laze around, learning and doing as little of importance as possible and causing the colony to suffer in consequence? Guess what: you can. I honestly cannot communicate how in love I am with this game. Play it.

The premise of the game is that the protagonist and her new spouse leave Earth to help colonize an alien planet. As time passes, the colony faces all sorts of trials – and so does your relationship. Within the game, you must make choices about what to research, how hard to work, and how to spend your free time, all ultimately resulting in different consequences. The game is mostly in visual novel format; click through the text to advance the plot and make occasional decisions that impact the game. There are also screens on which you have to make a set of decisions that will impact your stats and events for that month.

To call this game steamy may be an overstatement, but sex is a regular theme within the game. Even though it’s never shown explicitly, characters do discuss it in barely vague terms. The game also includes cheating, injury, and death, but again in a nongraphic way.

(Nameable): Unique

This character’s preset name is Jack, so we’ll call him that for ease of reference. Jack is a lot like an actual person. He’s a loving partner, but he is perfectly capable of getting frustrated or angry with the protagonist. He’s a hard worker, and recognizes that putting in constant effort is necessary for survival in the colony. However, Jack still manages to find time for the protagonist and is creative enough to find ways to show her he cares even with the tremendously few resources they have available. Overall, he’s a good and caring partner, but he’s completely capable of making mistakes and becoming aggravated when things go wrong.

Brennan: Player Type

Why is there a second romanceable character in a game where you’re married, you ask? Ahahaha. You’ll see, if you relationship is bad enough. Anyway, Brennan is flirtatious with the women he meets, and has no partner of his own. He can be kind and sympathetic, and even somewhat heroic, but mostly seems like a fairly carefree and joking person. Although she doesn’t take his overtures very seriously if her marriage is healthy and simply considers him a friend, well, she might just find them slightly more tempting if her relationship with Alec is suffering.
